Scallywags would never have
happened without a bunch of people. This includes the crew
of "The Black Witch" who took me to see POTC2 (including
Lucie and Kinu who inspired a couple strips, and first and
foremost Riki who is partly resonsible for Pierce's
character design and let me use her brilliant idea. :-))
I also need to thank Sapphire, my Pirate Consultant, for asking
the question "why not make it a comic strip?" when I showed
him some of the first sketches of Drake and Pierce.
Because it's funny. My main
goal with putting Scallywags online is to make you smile. If
I've succeeded, I'd be happy to know..
My comic/story projects tend to be long and complicated and
nothing is ever what it seems at first. They are of the
"well, you just wait until page 350! The story hasn't
started yet" kind,
which is all very well, but Scallywags gives me a break from
that. Because it is exactly what it seems - a silly comedy
about pirates. And no one has to wait around for the big
plot to unfold. Every strip or one-shot is a story or a
complete joke in itself . That doesn't mean that readers who
bother to stick around won't learn more about the characters
or meet new ones as the "story" progresses.
Hello, my name's Marie
"M-chan" Mortensen. I do have e-mail. I'm just about a quarter of a
century old. I draw and I write and I study and I teach and I do layouts and design, and all
this means I'm living a strange kind of double life. and
have next to no time for being a pirate.
I'm an expert foamswordswoman and an excellent navigator who
uses my female intuition and turns the map upside down
(occasionally on purpose), and my biggest drawbacks as a
pirate are that I'm lousy at stealing things without saying
I'm sorry and giving them back to their rightful owner, and
that I easily get seasick.
